The US federal system of financing research relies on a number of thematic funding agencies. When a novel idea involving multiple domains emerges, the agencies get together and launch a new program. As CPS found a fertile terrain for growth in the medical area, a multi-agency program was initiated. Medical CPS related research projects are nowadays an important portion of the CPS research and development. The industry operating in the area, from health system management to medical devices, is now building on the results of the funded research projects. In this presentation the US journey from the definition of the CPS as an emerging topic to the their use in our daily life is described, highlighting the collaborative efforts to make a vision a reality.
